WHAT IS FORMULA UBC?
Formula UBC, founded in 1991 by a group of students enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, is a student organization involved in designing, building, and testing a new open-wheeled race car each year. The completed car is taken to the annual Formula SAE competition in Detroit, Michigan and Fontana, California where it competes against approximately 125 universities and colleges from around the world. The competition is sponsored by companies such as Ford, Daimler-Chrysler, and General Motors. The team operates from the campus of The University of British Columbia in the Department of Mechanical Engineering building. Students take part in the project as an extra-curricular activity to further their education and become well-rounded engineers.
