Our Summer 2006 Press Release has been mailed out to our Sponsors and Supporters. You may also view it by downloading the PDF from the Media section of our website. Detailed in this press release are our competition experiences and a review of our post-competition design meeting. An excerpt is posted below: “The Formula UBC journey to the competition was a rocky one, which included a 14 hour delay at the U.S. border. There were moments of doubt, but the team was able to make it through thanks to generous help from the University and a very understanding U.S. customs broker. The team had high hopes to be able to work out engine electronics problems which had occurred one week prior to the competition, but with the border delay setting things back farther, a solution was not found in time to compete in any of the dynamic events.”
Formula UBC would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters for all their help and contributions towards completing a race car for the 2006 competition. The inaugural Formula SAE West competition was held from June 14th to June 17th at the California Speedway in Fontana California. The popularity of the original competition in Michigan led SAE to open Formula SAE West as a second North American competition. Having the competition at an actual racing venue resulted in a dramatic improvement in the quality of the facilities for this event compared to the original Formula SAE event. The field in California consisted of 71 university teams from all around the world, including Canada, the United States, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Sweden, and Australia.

Fourteen days and six-thousand miles later, Formula UBC has returned to Vancouver with a 23rd place finish. Eight team members attended the 2005 FSAE competition in Detroit, Michigan, obtaining the 4th highest finish of the participating Canadian Teams. This achievement is second only to the impressive 8th place finish in 1995. The countless hours of work designing, building and preparing the racecar, matched with clean, smooth driving led to this outstanding accomplishment. Furthermore we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors as without your support none of this would have been possible. We have completely revised the photo section of our website and updated it with numerous pictures from the 2005 competition and the work leading up to it.
