The Formula UBC team mourns the loss of former engine team member Mike Jones, who passed away in 2011.

“Mike was on our Engine team for the 2011 car build.  He was an awesome guy to work with, an excellent tig welder and a great guy to have in the shop.  He did a lot of great work on fabricating and welding the exhaust for the 2011 car as well as many other components.  I personally worked with him many times in the shop; such a respectful guy.  The team and I are going to miss him.  We will pay tribute to Mike Jones by engraving his name on the headrest of the 2012 car.”

When he showed up to the first build day wearing his custom embroidered “Formula UBC” hoodie and ready to weld, I knew he was going to be a star on the team. Every time I ever saw Mike, he was wearing a contagious smile that touched everyone in his company. His passion and cheer will truly be missed by everyone blessed by his presence.”

I got the opportunity to talk with Mike on several occasions about his schooling. He was on his way to becoming a great engineer and he always had a positive attitude even through the toughest times at school. Regardless of workload, Mike always found a way to help out the Formula team. There is an immeasurable amount of appreciation for what Mike
brought to the team. His presence and uplifting spirit will definitely be missed.”
