Join The Team

Formula UBC is a student design team that accepts students from all Undergraduate and Masters programs at UBC. This includes students from 1st to 4th year and beyond. Each year our team recruits new member from the end of August through the middle of September. Our online application opens the weekend before UBC Imagine day and remains open for about two weeks. As applications are submitted our executive team reviews them and invites selected individuals for an interview.

To learn more about the team before applying, applicants can meet our members through our booth at Imagine day or through our info nights.

What We Look For

Though knowledge of motor racing, engines, and car subsystems is an asset, it’s far from a requirement. The team tries to accept as many students as possible, but it is necessary to limit the size of the team. We are especially interested in driven, hard working people that pour their passion into their work. Quick learners, and people that are able to do their own research and come to their own conclusions thrive on our team. We expect our members to commit to the team and ensure projects are completed; the time commitment required to join the team is at least equivalent to taking another course. We also look for students that are able to work effectively, meet reasonable deadlines, and do not shy away from the necessary grunt work.

“My experience on the Formula UBC team has given me the opportunity to challenge the entire design process, from fabrication and prototyping, all the way back to market research. It’s been this experience alone that has landed me a dream job before even finishing my degree.”
